What is Micro-Needling?

Skin-needling is a recently embraced procedure here in the US. Skin-needling, also called Micro-needling or collagen induction therapy (CIT), has been a standard procedure in Europe for decades. Advances over the years led to the development of automated micro- needling. This simple mechanical device based on fine needle penetration can also deliver some of the same benefits of laser at a more affordable price point.

How does it work?

The premise is simple – create a small wound and the skin will respond with collagen production (up to 200% more) and new skin cells. Depending on the depth of the needle penetration, the needling pen can offer skin rejuvenation levels from the simple enhancement of product absorption to the clinical treatment of scars and wrinkles. Treatment on the face and neck are the primary locations, but skin needling can successfully be used on any area of the body… especially hands.

What conditions can be treated or improved?

• Mild to moderate acne scarring; any new or old scars
• Traumatic scars
• Photo-aging
• Hyperpigmentation, dark spots, melasma
• Under eye wrinkles and loose skin
• Moderate skin laxity
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Thinning hair
• Skin texture and pore size
• Stretch marks
• Hair regrowth
• Skincare product delivery

What does the procedure involve?

The skin is cleaned and numbing cream may be applied to lessen discomfort. For better results we use a collagen-stimulating products like Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin-C serum, a skin lightener for pigmentation, or even Platelet Rich Plasma… AKA PRP (more about PRP below) during the procedure. A small handheld pen like device with a sterile, disposable tip with 12 tiny needles is then used to pierce the skin. Our needling pen’s multi-speed and adjustable needle depth allow needles to pierce the skin’s layer at 90 degrees and increase the absorption of products. After the treatment, soothing Vitamin-C serum or Hyaluronic acid are used to hydrate, heal and protect the skin.

What is the downtime?

Immediately following the procedure, your skin will be mild-moderate redness, very similar to a mild sunburn. These effects heal quickly and typically skin color returns to normal in 12-24 hours. You will be provided with a suggested treatment regimen from your provider to encourage the fastest healing time possible.
